Missouri Tigers Spring Game 2012

There was plenty of enthusiasm at the 2012 Spring Game for the Missouri Tigers. Despite the list of 12 Missouri Tigers that were out with injuries, the Spring Game was an exciting one for fans.
With quarterback James Franklin out, all eyes were on redshirt freshman quarterback Corbin Berkstresser. Berkstresser completed 13-of-20 passes for 187 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Franklin is expected to be back before the start of the season, but Berkstresser got the majority of first-team snaps this spring.
Recall, the Tigers are making their transition to the SEC this fall.
Henry Josey looks to be more doubtful for the 2012 season. Josey rushed for 1,168 yards in just 10 games last season, before injuring his knee in November versus Texas. In Josey's absence, senior Kendial Lawrence rushed for 69 yards on six carries.

Big 12 Tournament Bracket Results

The Missouri Tigers were the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament.
In the second round, the Tigers first round of play, Missouri faced off with No. 7 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys proved to be little challenge to the Tigers as Missouri won 88-70.
In the next round of play, the Tigers faced No. 6 Texas. Again, their opponent failed to rise to the challenge. The Tigers won 81-67.
In the championship game, the Tigers played No. 4 Baylor. Baylor was coming off a win over the No. seeded Kansas Jayhawks. However, Missouri was too good. Missouri went home as the Big 12 champion, winning 90-75.

Independence Bowl Game Recap

Missouri quarterback James Franklin piled up 274 yards of total offense and scored three touchdowns as the Tigers sent North Carolina out with a loss. The Missouri Tigers will be entering the Southeastern Conference with a win, defeating the Tar Heels 41-24 in the Independence Bowl.
Missouri dominated on the ground, holding North Carolina to just 36 yards rushing while racking up 337 rushing yards of its own. The Tar Heels found hope in the third quarter, when Bryn Renner hit Jheranie Boyd for a 44-yard touchdown to close to the gap to 31-17, but a 49-yard Moe return on the ensuing kickoff helped set up a two-yard Franklin touchdown run to restore Missouri's 21-point advantage.
Renner finished the day 27-42 with 317 yards and three touchdowns.

Aldon Smith and Blaine Gabbert Drafted in First Round

Sophomore defensive end Aldon Smith and junior quarterback Blain Gabbert were drafted seventh and 10th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. Smith went to the San Francisco 49ers while Gabbert went to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The selections of the two University of Missouri football standouts marks the first time in Mizzou history that two Tigers have gone in the top 10 in the same draft.
Prior to 2011, Mizzou had a total of five top-10 draft picks in school history.

Basketball Season Review

The Missouri Tigers have wrapped up another college basketball season. Playing in the tough Big 12, the Missouri Tigers went 23-11 and 8-8 in the Big 12 conference play. The Missouri Tigers got off to a 14-1 start, including a 75-64 victory over the #21 ranked Illinois Fighting Illini. They defeated some talented teams in the 2nd half of the season including Nebraska, #24 ranked Kansas State, Colorado, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Baylor. They earned the #11 seed in the West Region for the NCAA Tournament. However, they lost in the 1st round to the #6 seed Cincinnati Bearcats 78-63.
After the season head coach Quinn Snyder was let go. The Miami Hurricanes head coach, Frank Haith, has now taken over for the Missouri Tigers and will be the new head coach.

Tigers 2011 Basketball Season Preview

The Missouri Tigers are starting to make some noise in college basketball. After 5 straight seasons of missing the NCAA tournament, in the 2008-2009 season the Missouri Tigers advanced all the way to the Elite Eight. They finished 31-7 and were also the Big 12 Conference Tournament Champions. Following that success, the Missouri Tigers once again qualified for the NCAA Tournament and made it to the second round last season. They upset #7 seed Clemson but were defeated by #6 seed West Virginia in the 2nd round. They finished the season at a record of 23-11.
After two successful seasons in a row, the Missouri Tigers have raised the expectations for the program. Head coach Mike Anderson is in his 5th season as the Tigers coach. Expected to lead the team will be Justin Safford, Laurence Bowers, Ricardo Ratliffe, and Michael Dixon. Coming into the 2010-2011 season, the Missouri Tigers are ranked #15 in the Coaches Poll. Look for the Missouri Tigers to contend for the Big 12 Title and another NCAA Tournament run.

The Missouri Tigers 2010 Football season featured the biggest win of the Gary Pinkel Era going 10-2. What looked like the worst non-conference schedule in the conference to begin the season actually turned out to be pretty good for the Tigers.
The turning point in the Tigers season came with the win over then-No. 1 Oklahoma. The game was played in front of 18,000 screaming fans. The Missouri-Oklahoma game demanded the attention of other teams to acknowledge the Tigers were for real and ready to contend for any title!

Following a 8-5 season in 2009, the Missouri Tigers are ready to improve on that mark. The Missouri Tigers return 8 starters, including junior quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who posted the 2nd highest passing efficiency last season in the Big 12 with a 104.5 rating. Junior wide receiver Wes Kemp will be targeted a bunch this year and Derrick Washington will be the starting running back. Sophomore defensive end Aldon Smith will lead the defense, as he was the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year and could be an All-American by the end of 2010. 2010 Football Spring Game

The Missouri Tigers Football team went out with a bang in the 2010 Football Spring Game. The annual Black- Missouri Gold Spring Game was held on April 17th at the Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field. There were roughly 15,000 fans in attendance to experience the seasoned, and a few new, standout talents with the Tigers. There was an impressive lineup for the Missouri Tigers and everyone is really pumped to see what the 2010 season will produce.
The Missouri Tigers will now finish up their schooling and have the option to stay in Columbia for summer conditioning practice, which the majority chooses to participate in. The practices entail a two-a-day workout starting in the beginning of August and goes until September 4th when they face off against Illinois. The home opener for the 2010 regular Missouri Tigers Football season is September 11th against McNeese State.

The Missouri Tigers basketball team has become a strong program overall and, even after losing three nationally recognized scorers, the Tigers battled their way to their second straight NCAA Tournament. After coming off of the NCAA Tournament Championships with the gold, and reaching the Elite Eight, the MU Tigers were ready to prove that was not a fluke. Mizzou fans are absolutely nuts when it comes to their beloved Missouri Tigers. This dedication to their school runs so deep, that the University of Missouri is credited with establishing the tradition of Homecoming in the USA! What began in 1911 as an invitation to their alumni to "come home" for the huge rivalry game against the University of Kansas, MU Homecoming has evolved into the largest celebration of the year for Mizzou students. The first Homecoming consisted of a welcome home celebration for the Mizzou alumni and, since 1999, the Homecoming blood drive has earned its spot as Guinness Book of World Records.

The University of Missouri, also known as Mizzou, was originally founded in 1839. Mizzou was the first public institution of higher education on the west side of the Mississippi River, and continues to be the largest university in Missouri (30,000 students). MU is also home to the world's first school of journalism, which began in 1908, along with having the world's most powerful university research reactor. As one of six public universities in the country, the University of Missouri houses a school of medicine, veterinary medicine, engineering, agriculture and law all on one campus.
